Quick Race Report: Anthem Great Pumpkin 5K - Reston

This was actually a new race for me. It was pretty good. I actually like to run on dreary days, so the weather was a plus. The course was good. The creepy pumpkinhead t-shirts (I will so wear it to work out on Halloween) were tech fibre.
---
I ran with Women for McDonnell. Y'know, the women who don't believe Creigh Deeds' rather dimwitted, negative ad campaign about how Bob McDonnell is some sort of a caveman... and, yeah, that's the back of my bleach-blonde head (we're off Goth hair for awhile - my mom complained about the jet black hair constantly) showing the Women for McDonnell colors post-race at the finish line. (Thanks, Cat, for sending us all photos.)
---

The course was good, and they had some huge prize pumpkin on display (like a half ton sized one - biiiiig!), there were races for kids after the main 5K and a pumpkin decorating contest as well (so it was fun for families and they actually had something for everyone to do) - and for anyone who wanted to hang around, the Reston Oktoberfest was going on that weekend. And, unlike Vienna's Oktoberfest, Reston does have a full menu of German oompah bands. (The Vienna Oktoberfest is okay - not to dis' it - but the lack of German oompah bands is just too noticeable there.)

Worth going to this Halloween themed race, despite the very looooong line that existed, even for those who were pre-registered. I always thought the advantage of pre-registration was a shorter line. Ah, well. At least the line was moving quickly and the volunteers were all very, very nice. If you go next year, don't dilly-dally until the last minute on race morning, especially if you want time to run your goody bag back to the car, because I was still putting my chip on when the race was starting. Plan for a little time in line. But definitely, get out and run this one. It's really a lot of fun.

Next scheduled race: Marine Corps 10K, with it's brand new Mall start. And, yes, I did miss the Army Ten Miler this year. No, I did not miss it on purpose. I missed the sign-up deadline. I'm still feeling disappointed in that lapse of scheduling.
